What is an aligner system?

The aligner system is currently the most advanced orthodontic treatment method used worldwide. It enables the correction of dental misalignments and malocclusions through the use of removable, transparent aligners. A major advantage of this technique is the ability to present a visual simulation of the final result before treatment begins. Patients can preview their ideal future smile and confirm whether the projected outcome meets their expectations.
Treatment with clear aligners is highly effective—teeth can be moved precisely to achieve proper occlusion, improved function, and excellent aesthetic results. Unlike fixed braces, plastic aligners are nearly invisible when worn, smooth, and free of sharp components. This makes them the most comfortable and aesthetically appealing option in modern orthodontics.

Additionally, aligners can be removed for meals and teeth cleaning, significantly improving comfort and enabling superior cleanliness. For this reason, aligner therapy is currently considered the best orthodontic option for maintaining oral hygiene. In many cases, treatment time is also shorter than with traditional fixed appliances. It is essential, however, that aligners are worn for approximately 20 h per day.

With conventional metal braces, components such as brackets and wires may irritate the oral mucosa, and issues such as detached brackets or displaced wires can occur. Clear aligners eliminate these problems.

Effectiveness of aligner treatment
The orthodontist managing treatment with an aligner system plans the final position of the teeth as well as all their movements at each stage of therapy. This allows for a highly predictable outcome regarding the final position of the teeth. The patient has the opportunity to see the final position of their teeth in a treatment plan visualization during the second visit to the clinic (the so-called treatment plan discussion).

Retention

After completing orthodontic treatment, patients receive removable, transparent retainer trays. These should be worn according to the orthodontist’s instructions to maintain the results achieved.

How to begin aligner treatment?

The first step in starting treatment with clear aligners is to schedule a consultation at the OrthoLine Orthodontic Center. During the initial consultation (approximately 40 min), a full set of bite and dental diagnostics is performed to prepare the treatment plan. Diagnostics include a CBCT scan, panoramic radiograph, cephalometric radiograph, intraoral and extraoral photographs, and intraoral scans—digital images of both dental arches captured quickly and comfortably for the patient.

An essential step in preparing for aligner therapy is the creation of 3D models. Based on all collected documentation, the orthodontist establishes a diagnosis and develops an individualized treatment plan. This plan includes, among other details, the scope of planned tooth movements, estimated treatment duration, and the number of aligners required.

During the second visit (20–30 min), dedicated to reviewing the treatment plan, the patient is shown a 3D visualization of their personalized plan and receives detailed information about the course of treatment. This visit may take place at our Center or online, depending on the patient’s preference.
If the patient decides to proceed with treatment, they receive their custom-made aligner sets at the third visit, perfectly fitted to their dentition. At the OrthoLine Orthodontic Center, we use both the Spark and Invisalign aligner systems.

Can every malocclusion be treated with clear aligners?

Clear aligners have a wide range of applications; however, there is a small group of cases in which aligners alone may not be sufficient to correct the teeth. In such cases, additional support may be required—for example, using modern skeletal anchorage systems such as orthodontic mini-implants, the Beneslider system, or the Hybrid Hyrax appliance.

In every case, a consultation with an orthodontist is essential to determine the treatment possibilities and the appropriate course of therapy.

How much does treatment with clear aligners cost?

At the OrthoLine Orthodontic Center, we use the Spark and Invisalign aligner systems. The cost of Spark or Invisalign treatment depends on the type of malocclusion and the scope of therapy. Treatment may involve one dental arch or both and may require a varying number of aligners. Therefore, the total cost is determined individually for each patient.
The initial treatment costs include consultation, diagnostics, preparation of the treatment plan, and presentation of the plan to the patient. The full price of aligner therapy is established individually during the consultation. The cost estimate, together with the treatment plan, is provided during the treatment plan discussion (the second visit), which may also be conducted online. Payment can be divided into convenient installments.
The final stage of aligner treatment involves the use of a retention appliance to stabilize the achieved results. Retention costs are included in the treatment plan.

Advantages of treatment with Spark and Invisalign aligners

Treatment with Spark and Invisalign aligners represents a significant advancement compared to traditional braces with brackets and wires. The main advantages of these systems include:

  1. Discreet, virtually invisible treatment
  2. Shorter treatment time compared to traditional fixed braces
  3. Easy, self-managed placement and removal of aligners
  4. Reduced pain and discomfort
  5. Fewer routine check-ups (appointments every 2–4 months)
  6. Visualization of the treatment plan at the beginning of therapy
  7. Easier oral hygiene
  8. Ability to continue normal dental care during treatment
